Eucharist - Commissioning
of Staff in Catholic Schools 2008
Wednesday February 14
Staff from Kolbe Catholic College joined other teachers
from the South Western Metropolitan Region Catholic
School's in celebrating Mass at Saint Jerome's Parish in Munster at the commencement of
the 2008 school year. After a welcome from Alec O'Connell, Deputy Director of the CEO, the packed congregation participated in a very welcoming and meaningful Mass.
The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Don Sproxton along with nine co-celebrants from the surrounding parishes. The celebration was based on the continued theme
of "Living
The Vision". Bishop Sproxton focused his homily on the challenges of becoming not only a teacher but on the duty that we as staff members have in enlightening students in our Catholic Schools. He extended a warm
welcome to new staff of the Archdiocese as well as
attempting to rekindle the passion of the many loyal
staff who have shared the light for some time.

Bishop Sproxton
also focused on the wonderful opportunity that the
World Youth Day in Sydney 2008 presented to us as
Catholic Educators. Not only are there opportunities for the pilgrims attending but the Bishop encouraged us all in our schools and parishes to support this event in a big way.
Finally the Bishop touched on the day itself, which was highly significant for all Australians, being the day the Prime Minister of Australia, Mr Kevin Rudd, had delivered the nation's "Sorry Speech" to the indigenous members of the Australian Community. He requested us to open our hearts and pray that the reconciliation process truly brings together the cultures often divided.
Living the Vision
We in Catholic Education seek to create
environments that enhance learning,
nurture young people and empower them
to live their Catholic faith
in the spirit of Jesus Christ by
Walking together in a spirit of
reconciliation and forgiveness.
Staff new to Catholic Education in the Archdiocese of
Perth were invited forward to take part in a special
Commissioning Ceremony. Bishop Sproxton prayed
for our newly appointed staff and gave them the following
blessing.

Prayer of Blessing over new staff
Nurturing God,
Give your blessing to these your people.
Grant
them wisdom and knowledge to fulfil their
vocation.
Give them the heart and mind of
Christ,
that they may show understanding and care
towards
those they are called to serve in their school
communities.
Grant them:
Enthusiasm
that they may
develop a hunger for the learning adventure.
Compassion
that they may
seek truth and justice for all, especially
the most vulnerable.
Wonder and Awe
that they
may capture the joy in the mystery of the created
universe.
Tolerance
that they may
embrace the diversity of the earth and all
its people.
Unconditional Love
that
they may walk with others in a spirit of reconciliation
and forgiveness.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
