Senior School Years 10 - 12
The senior phase of learning develops the skills students have learned in the Middle School. Students are encouraged to focus on doing their best in their academic program and participate in the co-curricular offerings of the College to give balance in their life. All students participate in Religious Education and the various House activities throughout the year. Opportunities to develop leadership skills exist in each year level of senior schooling and, while all students are expected to role model servant leadership, specific leadership roles range from Student Councillor to College Captain.
The College Curriculum in the Senior School supports our students’ transition into post- school options by providing a range of courses across the nine learning areas.
In Year 10, all students study Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science, Society and Environment and Physical Education. They also select four electives. Career Education in Year 10 develops students’ awareness of future pathways in helping to achieve their goals.
In Year 11 and 12 students, all students study Religion and Life or Beliefs and Values and English or English Literature. Students then select four other Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) courses from the extended list below. At this stage of their schooling, students choose subjects that suit their skills and abilities and which complement their future goals.
To support the varying needs and aspirations of our students, a diverse range of WACE Courses are offered to our Year 11 and 12 students. These courses allow for University entrance and other avenues students may wish to pursue such Vocational Education and Training pathways and the School Apprenticeship Link program.
The College’s Vocational Education and Training pathway allows students who would like to pursue apprenticeships and TAFE as post- school options to get a head start. Many of the courses offered in this program have National Industry Competencies embedded, which allow our students to achieve TAFE certification, while still enrolled at Kolbe Catholic College.
Students who are clear about their future pathway in a particular industry may also select a School Apprenticeship Link program. These programs require students to complete two days in training and three days at the College, where they have a reduced study program. This program reduces the length of an apprenticeship.
At the end of Year 12, students are provided with a statement of results, listing all of their results in their senior phase of learning. Students who achieve a significant amount of learning at a set standard of achievement and meet literacy requirements will be eligible for a Western Australian Certificate of Education. Furthermore, students who complete external examinations will be eligible for a Tertiary Entrance Rank.
