TOP DESIGN REWARDED AT eV CHALLENGE |
Friday
6 November
Three Year 7 teams from Kolbe Catholic College recently participated in the annual eV Challenge (Electric Vehicle Challenge) held at Swan TAFE.
Throughout the year, the students have relished the opportunity to test the vehicles – that is driving the cars a round the school grounds at high speed - and then making modifications to ensure the cars were race ready for the main event.
The eV Challenge is an endurance test where teams design and build a single seat electric vehicle and complete as many laps as possible of a closed circuit within one hour.
On race day, all students demonstrated their enthusiasm, team spirit and sportsmanship to other competitors. They should be proud of their achievements:
Results:
Team: Stig 1 (Callum Eaves, Kieran Newman, Tommy Lally) Best Design & Engineering Award across all divisions and 4th Place Division A2
Team - Numbnut (Alex Whiteman, Taylor Hayes, Charlie Bush) Best Design & Engineering Award for Division A and 6th Place Division A2
Team: Chilli Mobile (Jayden Lambert, Rhys Collard, Michael Laskey, Joshua Jones) Runner up Division A2 and 2nd Place Division A2

State winner of regional IT competition
|
Wednesday
21 October
Two Kolbe Catholic College Year 11 students, Nathan Wood and Hayden Slee, recently competed in the regional Worldskills Australia VETiS competition in the category of Information Technology.
Nathan Wood (pictured) became the Western Australian champion, with Hayden Slee receiving third place. Nathan will now represent Western Australia in the Information Technology category at the national competition to be held in Brisbane in 2010.
Both students were required to complete a set project within a six-hour time limit, which included the design of a new logo and a set of stationary for a fictitious company. Industry experts from the University of Notre Dame, Challenger TAFE and Smyl Community Services judged each competitor’s project.
Nathan said he was happy with his win although it hasn’t completely sunk in yet.
“Everyone has been congratulating me on my win - family, friends and teachers – but for me I don’t think my win will register completely until closer to the national competition,“ Nathan said.
Guillio Carboni and Sean Louw are to compete in the upcoming VETiS Worldskills Construction Competition. |

College Art Takes Pride of Place
|
Monday 21 September
FOR the first time, Kolbe Catholic College's annual Visual Arts Display took place off-campus in the Rockingham Regional Campus Community Library foyer at Murdoch University.
People from all corners of the Kolbe community attended the launch on Monday to hear guest speaker Genevie Baker, from the Catholic Education Office, speak of the benefits of the arts in education.
The exhibition, which closed yesterday, featured more than 150 student works, ranging in studio disciplines, from all years.
The College acknowledged the six students selected to represent Kolbe in the Catholic Arts Angelico Exhibition in August: Tara Durkan, Nathan Taylor, Kyle Dyson, Chelcie Paynter, Tim Smith and Kirsty Payne.
Year 9 student Tara Durkan (pictured above) was named the winner of the exhibition's Year 7 to 9 category for her magazine-inspired skateboard, while Year 12 student Francis Glanville's Leap of Faith earned him the award in the Years 10-12 category.

Young Bloods Challenge 2008 |
Thursday
26 February
At the Whole School Assembly on Tuesday 25 February, 2009 Megan Fraley from the Red Cross Blood Bank presented Kolbe Catholic College with the Young Bloods Cup.
Throughout 2008 30% of our students in Year 11 ans 12 donated blood, making Kolbe Catholic College the school with the highest proportion of blood donors in the state wide program. This outstanding achievement was also recognised by Gino Cafini, the manager of Good Guys, Rockingham ,who presented the Colllege with a $1000 gift voucher.
The challenge for our Senior School Students is to continue the wonderful donations and to encourage others to give blood to assist the one in three people in our community that rely on blood donors.
