Tandia Wilkinson
|
Indoor Hockey |
My name is Tandia Wilkinson and my chosen sport is field hockey. I play both indoor and outdoor hockey. I got into my first state team in 2007 were I represented Western Australia at the under 18’s national tournament for indoor hockey. In 2008 I was also selected to compete in the under 15’s outdoor national tournament in outdoor hockey where we brought home the gold medal. In 2008 I was selected once again for under 18’s indoor and the team came second. Later that year I was also selected for the under 16’s school girls team, however withdrew from this team due to training commitments with the under 15’s Western Australia state team.
This year has been an awesome year for me with my hockey. It began with selection for the under 18’s outdoor state team. In July I gained selection to the ACC girls outdoor hockey team, but was once again forced to withdraw due to training commitments for nationals. I was then selected as a train on for the open women’s outdoor state team, The Diamonds, which is my greatest achievement so far. I have recently been selected in the under 21’s and under 18’s indoor state teams.

Blake Lee Profile:
In 2009 Blake Lee was chosen to represent Western Australia in the all schools State Triathlon Championships held on the Bluff in Devonport Tasmania on March 22-23rd. The event was held in the same location last year so Blake had a good idea about the layout for the swim bike and run legs The selection races were held in various locations throughout Perth, with six junior males chosen to represent WA.
A large swell hampered the start of the swim leg with wet roads also adding to the problems during the race with some competitors crashing during the cycle leg. Blake competed against some fierce competition especially from Queensland and New South Wales giving his all during his events. Great sportsmanship was shown amongst the Western Australian Team throughout the 2 days of racing. Next year the event is scheduled to be held in Adelaide.

Ella Solin Profile:
Ella Solin was recently selected to represent Western Australia in the State Triathlon team 2009, which is held in Devonport Tasmania. She gained her place in the state team by placing in the top six positions for five consecutive races. The course consisted of a 400m swim followed by a 12km bike race and then a 3km run.
She is a member of the Rockingham Triathlon Club, who race regularly during the summer season. |
Mikala Falconer Profile:
On the 19th of March a group of triathlon WA represents left for Tasmania. We were there for 5 days and I must say, they were the best 5 days ever. Everyone in the team was great and we all bonded really well.
Two of those days, Sunday and Monday, we competed in individual triathlon’s with distances of 400m, 12km, 3km for juniors, 600m, 16km, 4km for intermediates and 750m, 20km, 5km for seniors. These individual races were held on the Sunday while the team races were held on the Monday. There were several teams but the one I participated in was the junior WA girl’s team with Jaz, Em and I receiving a bronze medal.
We had some really good placing’s although everyone did a brilliant job over there. I was placed 9th out of 36 whilst our best junior girl placed 4th. Our best placing in the individual races in WA was 2nd place, which was done by Mat Storer who competed in intermediate.
The experience was the best, competing for your state and seeing what the other states were like, and it was great to mix with the other teams. We stayed at several camps and it was so much fun. The main camp we stayed at was Camp Clayton, which had trampolines.
It was the best experience of my life and I hope that I will be able to achieve this again. |
|
Justin Amos Profile:
On March 19 we set out early in the morning to go to the place we had been thinking about all week - Devonport, where we would compete against other people from other states at Triathlon.
We watched the city get closer and closer and the clouds soon cleared out over our heads again. Excitement and joy filled us, but unfortunately we were only in Melbourne; we had another flight to go. Even more unfortunate was that it was a 3-hour stop over.
Finally it was time to go to Launceston. Luckily this flight was much shorter, and arrived there between one and one and a half hours. We stayed there the night and went for a hard run in the morning then went to Devonport the next day. We stayed at a cozy camp called Camp Clayton, but we referred to it as “Camp Crusty" as It was old and a bit run down.
The next day was race day, the reason why we were all here. There were around 40 competitors racing in each category. We all did pretty well, especially the junior girls' team who came a stunning second. It didn't matter if we won or lost just that everybody was happy with their results.
Then it came to the presentations, where they announced the winning girls and boys from each category and presented them with a medal. Matt Storer, one of our competitors came, an amazing second. That's not the main point of it all. What really matters is that we all had fun and all tried our best and were simply happy that we were there. |
