On Wednesday, March 19, our College came together for the first formal whole school assembly of the year. It was a vibrant celebration of community, leadership, and achievement.
During the assembly, we reflected on some of the fantastic events that have taken place and looked forward to the exciting opportunities ahead. One of the highlights was the presentation of the House Awards, recognising 12 outstanding students who have exemplified ‘The Kolbe Way’ by excelling in various aspects of school life. The prestigious Koort Award was also presented to Year 11 student Eva for her compassion, leadership, and commitment to welcoming and supporting others in our community.
Ministry Captains Pietro and Kaden led a reflection on reconciliation, encouraging students to renew relationships with God and each other during this Jubilee Year. They also highlighted Project Compassion, with Year 9 students actively raising awareness and funds to fight poverty.
Our Sports Captains, Ava and Nic provided an update on Kolbe’s sporting successes, including in RKAS Senior Girls Basketball and Junior Cricket. Kolbe also has many national representatives with students who have excelled in wakeboarding, mountain biking, and swimming, with several qualifying for national championships.
The Performing Arts Captains shared exciting updates on Kolbe’s thriving arts scene. Rehearsals for Just Another High School Play are in full swing, promising a fantastic production. The recent Groovin’ The ‘Nue festival was a huge success, highlighting incredible talent. Dance Company continues to grow, reaching record participation. Additionally, students have achieved outstanding milestones, including EP releases and lead roles in major productions. The arts at Kolbe continue to inspire creativity and excellence!
Students from the Italian Cultural Exchange reflected on their unforgettable experiences in Rome, Pompeii, Florence, and Assisi, deepening cultural connections and strengthening ties with our sister school, Liceo Properzio and the 2025 Ali Buckner Champion House Award was officially launched, with MacKillop House currently in the lead. Wellbeing initiatives were also emphasised, encouraging students to embrace positivity through the Affirmation Wheel.
The assembly concluded with an inspiring Student Executive Address, introducing this year’s leadership theme: Learn from the Past, Live in the Present, and Look to the Future. Students were encouraged to reflect on St. Maximilian Kolbe’s resilience, seize opportunities in the present, and shape the future through meaningful choices. A key highlight was the launch of the 2025 CLEAN Initiative (Create Lasting Environmental Action Now), promoting sustainability. The Bin Brigade, a team of 48 student leaders, has already collected 19.5 kg of rubbish, inspiring a cleaner, greener school community. The address ended with a powerful reminder—the choices we make today shape our future.
Thank you to all students, staff, and leaders for making this assembly a powerful celebration of the Kolbe community!
