Last week, our Year 10 Peer Support Leaders showcased their skills and compassion in a special session with the Year 7 students, demonstrating the profound impact of peer mentorship. Working in their House groups, our Year 10 students facilitated an engaging activity from the URStrongⓒ curriculum, an innovative program designed to equip children with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop and sustain healthy friendships.
The URStrongⓒ curriculum offers a range of kid-friendly concepts and a language toolkit tailored to help our students navigate the intricacies of interpersonal relationships. It emphasises the importance of understanding friendship dynamics, the value of open communication, and the skills required to build strong, supportive connections with others.
During the session, our Year 10 leaders served as role models, sharing personal experiences and insights into maintaining meaningful relationships. Their ability to convey complex ideas in an approachable and relatable manner ensured that the learning experience was not only educational but also enjoyable for the younger students.
For our Year 7s, the activity provided a wonderful opportunity to learn crucial social skills that will aid them throughout their schooling and beyond. For the Year 10 leaders, it was a chance to refine their leadership qualities and strengthen their capacity to support and inspire their peers. The interaction between the groups was a delight to witness, characterised by laughter, learning, and mutual respect. It was clear that both the Year 7 and Year 10 students benefited greatly from the experience, each group growing in confidence and understanding.
We are incredibly proud of the nurturing and supportive environment that our Peer Support Leaders continue to foster. As we watch our students develop into strong, compassionate leaders and friends, we are reminded of the power of community and the positive impact of programs like URStrongⓒ.
