Celebrating Chisholm

Giulio Gerace (Chisholm House Coordinator)

Chisholm House came together this past week in an incredible display of leadership, generosity, and school spirit. From a sizzling fundraiser to meaningful acts of service, our students exemplified what it means to live out our House values.

On Tuesday, our new Chisholm House Captains, Isla and Jack, organised a sausage sizzle fundraiser to raise funds for our chosen charity, Liliah Haven. The entire school rallied behind the effort, with all of Chisholm’s student leaders, including Peer Support members, pitching in to make it a success. The event was a sell-out, with every single sausage sold, raising close to $700. It was a fantastic effort from everyone involved, demonstrating the strong sense of community and generosity within the school.

Wednesday was a day of reflection and celebration as we gathered for the Chisholm House Mass, honoring our patron, Caroline Chisholm. This year’s theme, Love Your Enemy, served as a reminder of Caroline Chisholm’s deep compassion—embracing not only her friends but also strangers, outcasts, and even those who may have been considered her enemies. Following the Mass, students were treated to a delicious bacon and egg roll, prepared by our dedicated Chisholm staff. The day continued with fun and games, bringing our community even closer together.

Later that afternoon, 50 Chisholm students put our House motto, Help the Poor, into action by taking part in this year’s Busy Bee at Liliah Haven. Students dedicated their time and energy to assist with various tasks, including washing cars and tractors, vacuuming and mopping rooms, cleaning windows, and moving furniture. Their hard work did not go unnoticed, and the staff at Liliah Haven were truly touched by their generosity and willingness to help.

Kailey shared her experience, saying, “I got to wash a tractor for the first time!”  Beth reflected on the experience, saying, “The Busy Bee was an experience that we felt proud of, as well as an eye-opener to how some people don’t even have the necessities that we take for granted.” Faith  added, “The Busy Bee was such a fun and exciting experience that I will definitely be doing again in my time here, and it also felt amazing to help out.”

The week’s events highlighted the strength of Chisholm House and our commitment to supporting those in need. Whether through fundraising, celebrating our patron, or engaging in service, our students demonstrated leadership, kindness, and a true spirit of giving. A huge thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this week so special. Ryan summed it up perfectly: “It was great to see so many people turn up to support charity, and it shows a sense of community within the school. We had an amazing time, and it’s great to see everyone helping with serving and cooking.”
