This week’s whole school assembly took a special format, with our capable Year 10 and 11 student leaders stepping up to host in place of our Year 12 Student Leaders, who were sitting their Externally Set Tasks or preparing for their upcoming exams. We wish them all the best and thank them for preparing recorded messages and creating reports to ensure their important reflections and updates were still shared with the College.
A central focus of the assembly was recognising outstanding individuals in each House through the prestigious House Awards. We celebrated students for their exemplary involvement, integrity, and care for others. House Awards were presented to those who demonstrated joyful leadership, a spirit of service, compassion, humility, and a strong commitment to their communities. These students model the values of their Houses and inspire those around them through their actions and dedication.
Congratulations to our newly elected Year 7 Student Councillors—Abby Shackleton, Heidi Rushforth, Kanishka Balamurugan, Jesse Braovich, Paige Dredge, and Grayson Scott—on this wonderful achievement in their first year at Kolbe.
Our Rice House leaders highlighted the Bears4Chairs initiative, encouraging donations of soft toys to support children receiving wheelchairs through the Wheelchairs 4 Kids charity. The Student Executive presented a creative and engaging video encouraging us to model the growth and resilience of trees—learning from the past, living in the present, and looking to the future. They challenged students to reflect on the legacy they wish to leave and to set small, achievable goals to begin that journey. Acting Principal Mr Jones followed with a powerful message about standing up for the vulnerable, choosing not to be a bystander, and always leading with kindness.
Our students continue to excel in sport, with strong performances in swimming, powerlifting, triathlon, and athletics. Highlights include selection to the School Sport WA Swimming Team, success at the ACC B Division Carnival, standout results the School Sport Triathlon, and a national bronze medal in Heptathlon. Special congratulations to Madison and James, two senior students who competed in the Powerlifting WA State Championships — with Madison placing second and James breaking an Australian record with a 250kg deadlift.
This assembly highlighted the exceptional achievements, servant leadership, and community spirit that make Kolbe Catholic College so special. Congratulations to all award recipients and participants — your dedication, faith, and excellence are an inspiration to us all.
