On Wednesday, October 29, the Kolbe Catholic College community gathered for a memorable whole-school assembly, the first led by our 2026 Year 12 Student Leaders. The event was filled with pride and celebration as students were recognised for their leadership, service, and achievements.
A highlight of the assembly was the announcement of our 2026 Student Executive. We are extremely proud to announce the following appointments: College Captains – Sophie and Zayde; Deputy College Captains – Holly and Mckenna. These students will lead our community with courage, compassion, and commitment throughout the coming year.
House Awards were presented to students who exemplify their House patron saints through compassion, service, and kindness. Our 2026 Peer Support Leaders were also announced and will soon begin helping new Year 7 students feel part of the Kolbe community at Welcome Day and Year 7 Camp.
Ministry Leaders Reese and Daniela congratulated our Year 8 students for their participation in the Australian Catholics Young Voices Awards, where the theme “Voices of Hope” inspired creativity and reflection. Congratulations to Arianne, Georgia, Hugh and Lexie, who received Highly Commended Certificates.
KolbeCare Captain Sienna shared highlights from service initiatives, including the SleepOut for LifeLink, where 40 Year 10 students experienced a night of solidarity with people experiencing homelessness. She also thanked Year 9 students for completing their KolbeCare holiday service tasks and encouraged everyone to continue living with courage, faith and excellence. Mr Lightly highlighted the success of our GATE students in competitions such as OzCLO, the ASX Schools Sharemarket Game, and Creative Edge, where both Kolbe teams won State Final Awards.
Our 2026 Sport Captains, Mckenna and Addison, celebrated an outstanding year of sporting success, recognising ACC Athletics Allstars Martha (Year 9), Xavier (Year 8), Brielle (Year 9) and Shekinah (Year 7), as well as the achievements of Year 7 Super Series teams. A special mention went to Olivia (Year 11) for her leadership and mentoring in basketball.
Principal Mr Jones addressed key issues facing the College, including Australia’s upcoming social media ban for under-16s. He explained that these laws will support student wellbeing, self-esteem, and concentration, and assured that the College will work together to guide students through this change. He also discussed creating a safer, more comfortable environment through improved shade and toilet facilities, and urged all students to show respect by caring for school property and embracing the Kolbe way.
The assembly was a powerful celebration of leadership, learning, and community.
