15 Year 10 students attended Royal Perth Hospital on Wednesday 6th September to take part in the P.A.R.T.Y program, which stands for the Prevention of Alcohol Related Trauma in Youth.
This was part of the Personal, Social, Community Health subject’s unit ‘MyWorld, MyChoice, MyLife’.
As part of the day, students heard real life stories from those who had survived risky behaviours, along with touring the hospital emergency, intensive care, trauma, and physiotherapy units.
Through a variety of teaching techniques (including interactive lectures, videos and tours, as well as a visit from an injury survivor) students saw first-hand what it would be like to be injured.
In order to completely involve the students in the experience of injury and recovery, the group was taken through the common course of injury and treatment of someone involved in a trauma, often due to risk-taking behaviours.
