Harmony Day is a cherished occasion across Australia, bringing schools, workplaces, and communities together to embrace cultural diversity and celebrate the values of inclusivity, respect, and belonging. As one of the most multicultural nations in the world, with people from over 300 different ancestries, Australia thrives on the richness of its diversity. At Kolbe, we take immense pride in being part of a school community that reflects this diversity—one that welcomes all with open arms and recognises that our differences make us stronger.
On March 21st, Kolbe staff and students came together to honour Harmony Day in a vibrant display of unity and celebration. Our talented students showcased their creativity in a PC Decorating Competition, transforming classrooms into visual tributes to culture, heritage, and identity, while staff gathered for a shared morning tea, indulging in a delightful spread of homemade and traditional treats, each dish carrying a story of family, culture, and history.
Lunchtime saw the Avenue come to life with an atmosphere of joy and connection, as our student leaders hosted a series of fun games and activities, reinforcing the simple yet profound truth that joy, laughter, and shared experiences bridge cultural differences.
At the heart of our school’s values is Saint Maximilian Kolbe, a man whose unwavering commitment to love, sacrifice, and inclusion continues to inspire us today. Kolbe dedicated his life to serving others, standing against oppression, and creating spaces where all were treated with dignity and respect. His ultimate act of selflessness—offering his life for another in Auschwitz—was a testament to the power of love and humanity in the face of division. His story serves as a powerful reminder that true inclusion is not just about acceptance but about actively standing up for one another, ensuring that no one is left behind.
