TKW – Journey to Adulthood

Verena Smallman & Ben Otto (TKW Co-Ordinators)

The start of the year has been a busy venture for our Year 9 students thus far. The start of something new, launching into our Kolbe Way program, embracing the challenges and opportunities ahead. With the TKW Day and Opening Ceremony marking the official start of their journey, they have stepped boldly into their Rites of Passage experience—a transformative year of growth, learning, and self-discovery.

From the outset, during our TKW Day, they have begun forging deeper connections within their groups, getting to know their peers and mentors who will walk alongside them. Accepting the challenge, they are ready to navigate the highs and lows of the journey ahead.

On Tuesday night, at our Opening Ceremony, we did not let the sprinkles of rain deter us. Instead, we embraced resilience, taking on board whatever the weather threw at us—a fitting metaphor for the journey ahead. During the ceremony the students took a significant step forward, formally acknowledging their commitment to the journey with their families watching on. In a moment of reflection, students shared their gratitude with their families, recognizing the unwavering support and encouragement that will guide them throughout the year. Father Victor also blessed the students on their journey, offering words of encouragement and strength as they step into this significant chapter of their lives.

With courage and determination, the Year 9s are set to make this journey their own—embracing the challenges, celebrating the milestones, and growing into the young adults they are meant to become.
