Kolbe’s Rising Leaders

Jenefer Wiltschut (Head of Wellbeing)

At Kolbe we understand that leadership is not just about a badge or title, it is about being able to inspire and positively influence others around us. This term Kolbe has launched a new initiative called the “Rising Leaders Program” which hopes to develop these qualities early on in our younger students. This stand-alone program is designed to provide a unique opportunity for students in Year 8 and 9 to develop their leadership potential, while being mentored and guided by experienced Year 11 students.

Students were invited to complete an application to be considered for the program, and the successful candidates have already completed the first two out of seven modules focused on principles of leadership. Throughout the program, to be run over the course of Term Two and Three, our rising leaders will learn how to communicate effectively, how to build and work with teams, how to manage their time effectively, and how to make informed decisions. These skills will not only help them in their academic journey but also in the opportunities presented to them out in the community.

I am pleased to report that from what we have seen so far, the future of Kolbe is in excellent hands! Our Year 11 students that have stepped up to support our younger years have really embraced this opportunity to lead by example, and the Year 8 and 9 students are to be congratulated on stepping forward out of their comfort zone to challenge themselves in a positive way. We can’t wait to see what they achieve!
