Kolbe’s Walk For Water

Leon Dwyer (KolbeCare Captain)

In Week 7, students from Years 7 to 12 participated in the annual Caritas Walk for Water, an initiative aimed at raising both funds and awareness for global water scarcity. Coinciding with World Water Day, this event provided students with a meaningful opportunity to experience (even briefly!) the daily struggles faced by millions of people around the world who lack access to clean water.

The Walk for Water saw students carry a bucket of water for 3km along the Cross Country track, mimicking the lengthy journey many people in remote areas undertake every day just to collect water for their families. By taking part, we gained a deeper appreciation and understanding of the realities of water scarcity and the urgent need for sustainable solutions.

More than just a physical challenge, the Walk For Water was a lesson in empathy and social justice. Participants helped raise crucial funds for Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion, which supports life-changing initiatives in disadvantaged communities worldwide, especially in areas affected by water scarcity.

The Caritas Walk for Water was a brilliant display of Kolbe students’ commitment to service, and the importance of Standing Up, Stepping Forward, and Walking Together to support those in need. A massive thank you to all students and staff who gave up their time to make a difference!
