On Wednesday, May 21st, the students and staff of Loyola House celebrated the life and legacy of St. Ignatius of Loyola.
The day started with a beautiful Mass in the Chapel, where we reflected on the teachings of St. Ignatius. Gratitude, a foundational element of his way of life, was a central theme. In the weeks leading up to Mass, members of Loyola House were invited to write one thing they were grateful for on a purple butterfly. These butterflies were then displayed around the Chapel, serving as a reminder of the appreciation we hold for the things in our lives.
After Mass, Loyola students and staff enjoyed bacon and egg rolls before participating in various activities on the Avenue. Spending time together allowed us to deepen our connections and celebrate our shared community spirit.
At recess and lunch Year 11 student Eva organised a bake sale to raise money for the Loyola House charity, Epilepsy WA. Several families within the Kolbe Catholic College community have been affected by epilepsy, making this cause especially meaningful.
In the afternoon, students and families participated in the Kolbe Walk for Epilepsy. It was a fantastic display of the Kolbe community coming together to enjoy some music, food, and exercise while contributing to a worthy cause. We are proud to announce that from these events, Kolbe has raised over $2750 for Epilepsy WA.
One of our Loyola House Captains, Baxter, described the day perfectly:
“Loyola Day was a celebration of unity, gratitude, and house pride that helped bring our Loyola community closer together. The Walk for Epilepsy was an inspiring event, the participation, enthusiasm and charity shown by everyone reflected Loyola’s core values.”
Thank you to all those members of the Kolbe community who contributed to making the day as successful and enjoyable as it was. Loyola House is grateful for you all!
