In Week 7, the Kolbe Catholic College community gathered on the Avenue to mark the beginning of the Season of Creation, which has the theme for 2024 of ‘To hope and act with Creation’. Under clear skies, the school community united in reflection and commitment to caring for our Common Home.
The liturgy featured a powerful performance that depicted the impact of sin on the Earth. Year 11 Leader Judd noted, “The performance was a great reminder that we are called to be stewards of God’s creation.” Fellow Year 11 Leader Leon appreciated the visual message saying, “Our Theatre Company showed how industrialisation harms nature, inspiring us to make positive changes in society.” For Year 8 Leader Brielle, the outdoor setting made the event memorable: “Being outside helps us appreciate the beauty of our school and reminds us to protect God’s creation.”
Year 11 Leader Duncan found the experience eye-opening, “The liturgy made me reflect on my daily choices and their impact on the environment.” Year 8 Leader Oliver echoed the call to collective action, “The liturgy reminded me of the importance of coming together to save our Common Home.”
Fr Pier concluded the liturgy with a powerful message, reminding the community that while sin has harmed our world, humanity holds the key to its restoration. This Season of Creation calls us all to hope, act, and protect the Earth for future generations.
