Spreading Christmas Joy

Jenefer Wiltschut (Head of Wellbeing)

The Christmas season is a time for joy, celebration and togetherness. It’s also an opportunity to embrace the true spirit of Christmas: kindness, generosity, and compassion for others. This year, as we look forward to the festive season and summer holidays , let’s remember those in our community who may be doing it tough and look for ways to spread cheer and make a meaningful difference.

The tradition of giving at Christmas is more than just a gesture—it’s a powerful way to uplift others while enriching our own sense of purpose and connection. Whether it’s donating toys, clothes, or food, volunteering your time, or even offering a listening ear to someone who needs it, every act of kindness counts. For many in our community, the holidays can be a lonely or challenging time, and even the smallest act of care can bring hope and joy.

In Rockingham and the surrounding Peel region, several local charities are working hard to brighten the season for families and individuals in need. The Crew (https://thecrew.org.au/) is a standout organisation offering food hampers, gift donations, and other vital support. They rely on community generosity to help struggling families experience the warmth and joy of Christmas. Donations of non-perishable food, gifts, or monetary contributions are always welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Closer to home, our own Walsh Learning Centre staff are proudly supporting the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Gift Appeal. Students can collect a gift tag from the Christmas Tree in the WLC and leave a gift to be collected by the end of Week 9. These contributions go directly to families in need, ensuring that children and parents alike feel the magic of the season.

As we come together this Christmas, let’s take a moment to reflect on how we can embody the values of compassion and service that lie at the heart of this holiday. By supporting these initiatives, we don’t just help others—we also strengthen our school and local community ties. Giving from the heart not only transforms the lives of others but brings a special joy to our own, so together, let’s make this Christmas a season of generosity, kindness, and connection.
