From October 8-10, Year 12 students from the Future Ready Skills program embarked on a three-day Collaboration and Leadership Camp in Margaret River. This camp is a significant milestone in the Futures Program, which is part of the College’s Industry and Enterprise pathway, designed to foster both personal and vocational growth.
The camp, held in the scenic landscapes of Margaret River, provided an opportunity for students to reflect on their accomplishments and engage in various team-building and leadership activities. The students participated in adventure-based challenges, such as caving and kayaking, which tested their teamwork and leadership abilities in real-world contexts. Reflective sessions around the fire pit each evening allowed students to share personal stories, build camaraderie, and deepen their connections with peers.
One of the highlights was the Futures Graduation Ceremony, where students delivered speeches and reflected on their time in the program. This was a proud moment, celebrating their achievements and the skills they developed throughout the two-year journey.
The camp also encouraged students to consider their future ambitions, with activities like the mindful leadership walk along the Cape to Cape Track, helping them to envision their next steps in the professional world. It was even a surprise to witness pods of humpback whales as part of their southern migration. Spectacular and symbolic of our students’ bright futures ahead.
Year 12 student, Charli, shared, “Camp was a wonderful experience, not only has it made me more comfortable and confident in myself but it has also allowed me to bond with people I haven’t talked to before. It’s given me the ability to try new things and really get active. The teachers made it even more amazing and comfortable and so inclusive for everyone. I hope that this can be something for the future generations of Kolbe Catholic College.”
Year 12 students, Noah, shared, “camp was an amazing experience, i made so many memories and got to hear stories from everyone, futures camp allowed me to come out of my comfort zone to try new things such as kayaking and talk to people I might have never had the chance to talk to before. I think the futures camp is a good way for the year 12 students to say goodbye and have a chance to speak about their experience at Kolbe.”
The Year 12 Futures Camp served as a celebration of the students’ growth, equipping them with the confidence and skills to navigate their future careers.
