APPLE DEVICES

Purchase your device
You can purchase your device from any location. Below are two options that allow you to get special education pricing.
- OPTION 1 – JB Hi-Fi Portal: Visit the parent portal for Kolbe students. Use the tabs to navigate to the relevant year group and select a suggested device.
- OPTION 2 – Apple Education Store: The Apple Education Store will give you a discount on the purchase price of your iPad.
Please note as of 2023 Year 7 students will be loaned a school device. There is no requirement for Year 7 students to purchase a device.
Parental Control
It is important that as a parent you understand how and when your child’s device should be used. Correct setup and management of the MacBook or iPad will support you at home and our teachers at school.
The information on this site will help you choose the best device for your child, ensuring that they get the most from the device by using it as a tool that enhances their learning.
Middle School Requirements (Years 8 and 9)
It is a requirement that all middle school students have their own iPads. They must use:
- An iPad or iPad Pro (keyboard optional) with Apple Pencil.

Senior School Requirements (Years 10-12)
We encourage all students to update their device every three years. Therefore, when students reach Year 10, it is appropriate to update the device used throughout middle school. This ensures that the latest operating system and apps are being used and that the learning tools are up to date.
Senior school students can use either:
- An iPad or iPad Pro (keyboard or Apple Pencil optional, needs to support the latest version of iOS)
- A MacBook

iPad Specifications
Please ensure your iPad meets these minimum requirements:
- iPad or iPad Pro, 8th generation minimum (an iPad Mini is not suitable)
- Apple Pencil or stylus
- keyboard is optional
- minimum 32GB capacity
- updated to the latest operating system
- Wi-Fi capabilities only (a 3G or 4G model is not recommended)
- a sturdy cover or case that provides excellent protection
Note that all students in Years 7 to 9 will have their iPads managed by the school. All apps will be free.
MacBook Specifications
Please ensure your MacBook supports the latest version of MacOS. Any of the following devices are acceptable:
- MacBook
- MacBook Pro
- MacBook Air
Strongly Recommended: AppleCare+
AppleCare+ protects you for two incidents of accidental damage.
AppleCare+ for iPad provides up to two years of expert telephone technical support and additional hardware coverage from Apple, including coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage, though each claim is subject to a A$65 service fee. This is a viable alternative to including the iPad under an existing insurance policy.

Please ensure your child’s device is insured for loss or damage.
Kolbe Catholic College cannot be held responsible for the loss or damage of a student’s device. Parents must check that their child’s device is correctly insured.
