LIFE AT KOLBE. THE KOLBE WAY.

The College’s mission is to nurture and celebrate our students. We aim to help them flourish by providing a welcoming environment — a place where they will feel loved and develop a genuine sense of belonging.

PASTORAL CARE

As we focus on the development of the whole person at Kolbe, pastoral care is embedded into every aspect of College life.

Our pastoral care program is based on our Christian belief in the dignity and respect of each person. The program is designed to foster skills that allow students to better manage emotions, develop healthy thinking styles, manage everyday challenges and foster healthy relationships. It allows us to create a safe and supportive Catholic faith community, where students and staff can flourish and develop socially, spiritually, emotionally, academically and physically.

WELLBEING

Investing in the wellbeing of children sets them up with a strong foundation to live their best possible life both now and in the future.

At Kolbe Catholic College, we have a shared vision to provide outstanding care for every student so they can become the best versions of themselves. When we talk about wellbeing we address the overall health of a student, including social, mental, physical, spiritual and emotional health. We know our students thrive in an environment where they feel safe, engaged in their learning and connected, and there are many things we are doing that work towards building a positive wellbeing culture.

CAMPUS MINISTRY

There are numerous events throughout the College year in which we celebrate our Catholic faith. Our aim is to nurture the spiritual growth of students through prayer, reflection and active participation.

There are numerous events throughout the College year in which we celebrate our Catholic faith. Our aim is to nurture the spiritual growth of students through prayer, reflection and active participation.

Our College provides many opportunities for students to explore their faith, serve others and seek spiritual guidance. Kolbe’s Campus Ministry Team is visible throughout the College and in the everyday lives of our students and staff. Their work is underpinned by our vision ‘to grow lifelong learners inspired by Jesus to help transform the world’. From the beginning of their journey at Kolbe until they depart, students have many opportunities to encounter Jesus, such as celebrating Mass, Religious Education lessons, retreats, service learning, liturgies and other school events.

COLLEGE HOUSES

College Houses are an essential component of life at Kolbe and allow the opportunity for all students to develop a sense of connection and belonging, and grow into the best version of themselves.

Kolbe Catholic College has established a House system for Pastoral Care, Student Activities and Leadership. Each of our six Houses have been named after a person who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the Church and society of their time. Our House patrons especially reflect the College’s ethos of courage, faith and excellence. The House and PC system provide students with an environment where they are cared for, guided and supported..

Kolbe Kaartdjiin Boodja (Kolbe Learning Ground) is providing opportunities for lndigenous students in Years 7 to 12 to achieve outstanding educational outcomes, while also connecting to their culture and building friendships. We maintain strong working partnerships with students, staff, parents and the wider community by focusing on student achievement, wellbeing, safety and resilience. We have been rewarded with numerous Awards of Excellence in Catholic Aboriginal Education and are actively encouraging Aboriginal families wanting a Catholic education for their children to join our community.

DEFENCE SCHOOL MENTOR

It is a privilege to support families who sacrifice so much in the service of our country. We aim to help students from Australian Defence Force families thrive socially and academically while they receive a quality education at Kolbe.

The Defence School Mentor Program provides support to students of Australian Defence Force members and their families. Kolbe’s Defence School Mentor works with the Wellbeing Team, teaching staff, students and their families to support the educational and emotional needs of our Defence students. Excursions, incursions and activities are organised throughout the year to encourage relationships and foster a supportive network.

SPORT AT KOLBE

Our Health and Physical Education Department encourages the growth of skills and provides experiences that foster healthy values, attitudes and lifestyles, now and well into the future.

At Kolbe Catholic College, we are committed to the development of the whole person. Our philosophy is that education is a matter of health — it is nourishment for the body, mind and soul. The benefits of movement, whether it takes the form of play, games or sports, is well known. Learning within our HPE learning area is conducted through physical and theoretical activities, both during structured lessons and in settings outside the classroom, through co-curricular and extra-curricular sports, excursions and other personal and team-building opportunities.

PERFORMING ARTS AT KOLBE

The performing arts are deeply interwoven into the culture at Kolbe. Students are immersed in a creative and inspiring environment so they can add to the vibrancy of our community with their gifts and talents.

Not only do we provide dynamic performance and exhibition opportunities for our students, but we also enable them to develop transferable life skills, such as creativity, critical thinking and collaboration. Kolbe students can choose from a range of courses, as well as co-curricular and extracurricular activities in the areas of dance, music and drama. They have the opportunity to be part of various workshops, rehearsal processes, public performances, productions and competitions at Kolbe and beyond.

EXTRACURRICULAR

There are many opportunities for students to engage in extracurricular activities at the College. These activities and programs give students a chance to build relationships and explore their interests and passions.

At Kolbe, we value all kinds of learning experiences, in and outside of the classroom, but former students will agree that they remember so much more than just the learning that takes place in the classroom. The College offers a range of extracurricular activities in the areas of sport, culture and areas of student interest. Active participants develop a true sense of belonging to the Kolbe community and we encourage students to step forward and take part in the many programs or groups on offer.
