GATE Welcome Brekkie

Kris Lightly (GATE Coordinator)

Last Friday, Kolbe opened its doors to the brilliant minds of tomorrow at the GATE Welcome Breakfast! Our Year 7 and 8 Gifted and Talented students and their parents enjoyed a delicious breakfast spread while mingling and getting to know each other.

Part of the event was a presentation on the GATE program and some of the opportunities provided to the Gifted and Talented students at Kolbe. Former GATE students, now serving as mentors, also joined in and shared their experiences and insights, giving a glimpse into the journey ahead. They talked about activities, lessons, competitions, and camps they’ve enjoyed during their time in GATE. Parents and prospective students had a chance to ask questions and discover what we do in the elusive domain of 3.1, while enjoying a coffee or orange juice, and perhaps a delicious croissant or two.

Many parents were quite interested in finding out more about some of the new and exciting endeavours, like the Rising Scholars Program. Due to a recent partnership created with Curtin University, highly aspirant and academically capable senior students will have the opportunity to engage in and obtain credits for up to four tertiary units if they are successful applicants.

I personally enjoyed meeting all of the bright, enthusiastic young people who make the future of our College and broader society an exciting prospect.
