Grandparents Mass

Deb Barraclough (Head of Year 8)

The morning rain couldn’t stop the warmth felt in the Chapel at our Year 8 Grandparents Mass. Around 80 grandparents joined us for this special occasion, celebrating faith and family.

Father Giovani delivered a touching homily, emphasising the invaluable role grandparents play in our lives and speaking of the unwavering support and love they generously give. The readings and prayers delivered by our Year 8 students were thoughtfully chosen to reflect the importance of family bonds and the wisdom passed down through generations. Each grandparent received a flower from their grandchild in a touching end to the Mass.

After a few tears and a lot of hugs, students and their grandparents headed to the Staffroom for a lovely morning tea hosted by our Hospitality students. The room was buzzing with conversations and laughter as stories were shared and memories recounted.

The event was a beautiful reminder of the love and support that grandparents provide, and the essential role they play in nurturing the next generation. We look forward to many more such celebrations in the years to come.

“For us, it was so good to be there with one of our grandsons, and wonderful to be meeting grandparents who we knew through the 80s, 90s and early 2000s as parents – parents of children who now have their own children, our grandchildren, at the wonderful educational institution that is Kolbe Catholic College. Thank you to all those responsible.” Lyn Quilty
