It’s been an action-packed week on the sporting front at Kolbe Catholic College, with students hitting courts, fields, and ovals across a range of competitions. From fierce finals to carnival camaraderie, our students gave it everything, representing the College with pride, teamwork and tenacity.
SSWA Senior Girls Basketball – 10 June
Our Senior Girls took to the courts in the SSWA Basketball Finals, facing off against some of the top high school teams. Though the scoreboard didn’t swing in our favour across the four games, the team’s performance was nothing short of inspiring. In their first game against Churchlands (who went on to win the tournament), the girls ran hard, played smart, and led for much of the match before being edged out by a single point in the final moments. Special mentions go to Olivia (Year 11) for her sharpshooting and defence, Emmerson (Year 10) for her relentless shooting efforts, and Phoebe (Year 12) for her defensive grit and ‘never give up’ attitude.
This carnival also marked the end of an era for Phoebe and Ava (Year 12), who finish their Kolbe basketball journeys having reached the finals two years in a row. A fantastic legacy!
SSWA Netball – 11 June
Our netballers lit up the courts with energy, skill and school spirit.
- The Year 11/12 Boys Teams had mixed results, with Team 2 securing two wins and Team 1 finishing second in their pool—potentially progressing to the Term 3 elimination finals.
- Year 7/8 Girls and Year 9/10 Girls played in two teams per year group. Both Team 1s went undefeated and are advancing to the next round.
- Team 2 also had strong showings, with wins and standout players including Evie (Year 8) and Abbey (Year 10).
It was a day of excellent netball and even better spirit. We’re so proud of every single player!
RKAS Basketball – 11 June
Our Year 8/9 boys faced Peter Carnley Anglican Community School in a fierce RKAS clash, coming away with a 54–43 win. Blake (Year 9) held it down in the key, and Alec (Year 9) was “deep in his bag”, delivering some brilliant moves in a nail-biting first half and a dominant second. A great result!
RKAS Netball – 11 June
Just hours after a full-day carnival, several students returned to the court for RKAS Netball Round 4 against Peter Carnley. Massive shoutout to Lachyn (Year 7), Jaime (Year 7), Paige (Year 7), Olivia (Year 9), Grace (Year 9), Jess (Year 8), Isabella (Year 8) and Brielle (Year 9)—your dedication is peak Kolbe spirit.
Results:
- Year 7 Girls: Won 32–6
- Year 8 Girls: Narrow 23–19 loss
AFL Senior Boys Final – 11 June
In our first Senior Boys AFL Final in a few years, Kolbe faced Mandurah Catholic College in a high-stakes match. Despite a 46–14 loss, the team left it all on the field. Kyan (Year 12) was dominant up forward, Daniel (Year 12) displayed elite composure and all-round skill, and Tom (Year 11) showed fearless leadership throughout. The boys should be proud of making it this far—it’s a big milestone for the team.
SSWA Junior Touch Rugby – 13 June
Kolbe’s junior girls and boys teams took on tough opponents in a competitive Touch Rugby carnival.
- Girls Team (Year 7–9): Finished with 3 wins and 3 losses. The team showed impressive growth across the day, with strong teamwork and unwavering effort. Shoutout to Brielle (Year 9) for her leadership and playmaking, and Asha (Year 9) for her tireless try-scoring, and hats off to the whole team for their drive and improvement.
- Boys Team (Year 7–9): 2 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses—a fantastic result considering it was their first time playing together. Tannar (Year 9) led from the front as top try scorer, while Samuel (Year 7) showed maturity beyond his years with fierce defence and key setups. An impressive showing against tough competition!
SSWA Senior Volleyball – 13 June
Kolbe’s Senior Girls and Boys Volleyball Teams competed in the A Division tournament at MARC. Though both teams finished unplaced, they played at the highest level seen by our coaches in recent years. Captains Orla (Year 11) and Khyleen (Year 11) were a force, while Osamu and Zachary led with class in their final tournament for Kolbe. Matches were close and fast-paced, many decided on the buzzer. The girls especially pushed both the eventual 1st and 2nd place teams to the limit. On another day, the results could’ve looked very different.
What a Week! From thrilling finals to team debuts, it’s been a week of resilience, heart, and school pride. A massive thank you to our coaches, staff and cheering squad who make it all possible. Go Kolbe!
