As the year draws to a close, and I write my final eNews article for the year, I am reminded of a quote from an unknown source that states, “Surround yourself with people who light your path, not extinguish your flame.” This sentiment perfectly encapsulates the journey of 2024 at Kolbe Catholic College—a year where challenges and celebrations have forged a stronger, brighter community.
Reflecting on the past twelve months, I am genuinely inspired by the dedication, courage, and resilience of our students and staff. Together, we have embraced the values of The Kolbe Way, striving for excellence, demonstrating unwavering faith, and building a community where everyone feels they belong. This is what makes our community so special – and it is something that I feel so grateful to be a part of. As we approach the season of Advent, I encourage all our families to take time to reflect on the light of Christ in their lives and the profound meaning of Christmas – while also taking the time to cherish special moments with families, eat far too much and hopefully watch the joy in others as gifts are exchanged.
This year’s Awards Night, with the theme Keep the Fire Burning, was a beautiful celebration of the unique talents, achievements, and contributions of our students. Whether you joined us in person at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre or via livestream, the evening was a testament to the vibrant spirit of our community. Witnessing students walk across the stage—whether for academic excellence, creative artistry, service to others, or living out the values of our patron saint, Maximilian Kolbe—was a powerful reminder of the fire that burns within each of them.
To students at Kolbe, I issue you this challenge: set your sights on one day stepping onto that stage. Whether it’s this year, next, or beyond, may your time at Kolbe be marked by moments of growth, contribution, and purpose that light the way for others.
At this time of year, it is appropriate to farewell staff leaving Kolbe. Can I please acknowledge the efforts and service of the following staff members who move onto new professional challenges or retirement next year:
