On Monday 27th October, twenty female students from Years 7 to 9 embarked on a reflective and faith-filled journey to the Schoenstatt Shrine. The day centred on the inspiring theme of “Ubuntu”—an ancient African philosophy meaning “I am because we are.”
From the moment they arrived, the spirit of community and connection was at the heart of every experience. Guided by Sr Lisette, students were invited to reflect on the courage of Mother Mary’s “YES” to God, and what it means to say “yes” in their own lives and faith journeys.
One student shared, “I learnt that God doesn’t love you because you are good, but because He is our Father—and I won’t ever forget that.”
Sr Lisette also opened up about her personal and courageous vocational journey, describing how her faith led her all the way from Germany to Australia to help run the Schoenstatt Shrine. Her story deeply moved the group and inspired them to see how trust in God can shape a life of purpose and service.
As one student beautifully put it, “It just made my day light up… it was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever been on. It was a great honour to meet Sister Lisette.”
Throughout the day, students explored the Fruits of the Holy Spirit, reflecting on how these gifts are expressed through their own actions, words, and relationships. They were reminded that each of them is one of God’s greatest treasures—created and loved unconditionally.
“The most valuable part of that day was being at the shrine and feeling that connection between God,” another student reflected.
Moments of craft, prayer, and shared lunch rounded out the day, giving everyone a chance to connect, create, and celebrate the true spirit of Ubuntu—community, compassion, and belonging.
“A beautiful and lovely day where we could grow in faith,” one student said. “I also liked having a meal together and the craft activity.”
For many, the most powerful moment came in quiet reflection:
“I liked it when we went to ask for forgiveness from God and looked in the treasure box mirror to see the light on my head and the Holy Spirit looking down on me. It really changed me.”
It was, in every way, a day of faith, friendship, and reflection—a reminder that we are because we are together.
