This week, our College community gathered on the Avenue to begin the Season of Creation, celebrated worldwide from 1 September to 4 October. This year’s theme, Peace with Creation, invites us to reflect deeply on the ways our actions can either harm or heal God’s creation. In this Jubilee Year of Hope, we were reminded that we are called to be “Pilgrims of Hope,” sowing seeds of peace and care for our common home.
The liturgy centred around the Garden of Peace symbol, with students bringing forward soil, water, plants, an olive branch, and light. Together, these elements reminded us of both the fragility and the beauty of creation. As Dilan reflected, “It was a great way to introduce the Season of Creation theme in an entertaining way.”
Each PC group contributed leaves: brown to represent the harm humanity inflicts on creation, and green to represent hope and renewal. These were placed on our Peace Tree, a powerful sign that we all share responsibility for restoring harmony with creation. Kaden noted, “It was a time to reflect and understand what we do to creation, and what we can do to fix the damage. As Pilgrims of Hope, we are called to create peace with creation in our Kolbe community.”
For many students, the liturgy was also a chance to share their own voice. Lauren commented, “I enjoyed being part of the liturgy as it was a fun way to share my ideas on this year’s theme, Peace with Creation.”
As we continue this Season, may we walk with creation, with one another, and with Christ, sowing peace and hope wherever we go.
