Year 12 Futures Camp

Rick Bunn – Futures Program Coordinator

“Unexpected.”

That was how Year 12 Futures student Finn described his experience during our first evening reflection circle in Margaret River.

Last week, Kolbe Catholic College’s Year 12 Futures students came together for their Collaboration and Leadership Camp, staying at Surf Life Saving WA’s South West Development Centre in Margaret River.

The three-day experience combined adventure, teamwork and reflection, with students taking responsibility for planning and leading activities. From kayaking and exploring Giants Cave to leadership challenges and shared conversations around the fire, the camp offered opportunities to strengthen friendships, recognise personal growth and celebrate their achievements.

I loved kayaking because it was so much fun to laugh and have a good time with my friends and to splash them with water. The caving was amazing! – Dakotah

A highlight was the Futures Graduation Ceremony, where students shared their individual journeys, acknowledged those who had supported them and spoke about their aspirations beyond school.

It was a special experience as although we all took the same class, everyone’s experiences were different. Futures graduation night allowed us to share gratitude to our teachers and peers for helping us discover who we want to be. – Keeley

More than a farewell, the camp celebrated what a Kolbe Futures education is about. Helping young people recognise their strengths, develop their capabilities and build the confidence to pursue their interests, embrace opportunities and find purpose in their lives.
