A lively group of 21 Kolbe students recently had the fantastic opportunity to represent our College at the ACC Inclusive Sports Day! This event was much more than just a sports carnival—it was a celebration of unity, excitement, and the joy of trying something new, all in a fun and welcoming environment.
The ACC Inclusive Sports Day was created to give students a chance to explore a wide range of sports in a vibrant, social setting. Thanks to the joint efforts of the ACC, State Sporting Associations, and other prominent organisations, the day offered a unique “have a go” approach, allowing students to discover new sports. With guidance from skilled coaches and sporting representatives, every student was encouraged to participate and find their moment to shine.
What made this day truly special was its focus on inclusivity. Schools were encouraged to bring together students of all abilities, creating an environment where students with disabilities and their mainstream peers could connect and thrive together. The atmosphere was full of excitement, with everyone supporting one another and sharing in the fun.
Throughout the day, our students had the chance to try a wide array of sports, including blind football, volleyball, golf, soccer, AFL, rugby, and netball. The bright sunshine and warm weather added to the overall joy, as students embraced every opportunity to get active and enjoy the day.
Scarlet, a Year 7 student, summed up the experience, saying, “It was so much fun. Everyone had great energy!” Kolbe staff member Melissa Lewis also shared her thoughts: “These carnivals offer such a valuable chance for all students to enjoy sports together. We were lucky to have such beautiful weather, which made the day even more enjoyable.”
At Kolbe, we are committed to creating meaningful experiences for students of all abilities. Watching our students dive into new sports, embrace inclusion, and have such a great time was heartwarming.
