In addition to the excitement of the Lightning Carnival held earlier in Term 2, approximately 60 Year 7 students from Kolbe Catholic College were selected to compete in the prestigious Super Series Carnival. Unlike the Lightning Carnival, the Super Series is a more competitive event, bringing together teams in boys’ and girls’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ basketball, and girls’ netball at various venues across Perth.
Although the day started early, the students were enthusiastic and ready for the challenge. The carnival followed a tournament-style format, with teams advancing to finals based on their performance in the preliminary matches.
Kolbe’s results were as follows:
– Girls’ Basketball: Won 2 games, lost 2
– Boys’ Basketball: Won 3 games, lost 2
– Boys’ Soccer: Won 2 games, lost 2
– Girls’ Soccer: Won 1 game, lost 4
– Netball Girls: Undefeated in the pool matches but unfortunately lost the crossover final to Sacred Heart, who went on to win the Grand Final.
All Kolbe students represented the school with pride, showcasing both exceptional athleticism and exemplary sportsmanship throughout the event.
Reflecting on the day, Basketballer Blake, shared his key takeaway from the competition: “Talent wins games, but teamwork wins championships.”
Matilda, who participated in netball, added: “I really loved the experience of seeing what the Netball girls at Kolbe are capable of. The competitive nature of the sport pushed everyone to give their best, while fostering teamwork and a supportive, healthy mindset.”
Overall, it was a fantastic day of sport, where Kolbe’s Year 7 students demonstrated both their skills and their dedication to teamwork.
