Kolbe Catholic College was proudly represented at the Angelico Catholic Art Awards, held last week at the Forest Centre in Perth. This annual exhibition celebrates creativity in Catholic education, showcasing more than 200 artworks by primary and secondary students from across Western Australia.
This year, Kolbe was represented by a talented group of student artists, including Nina (Year 12), Noble (Year 11), Daisy (Year 12), Anise (Year 12) and the creators of the Year 9 Party Birds artwork. The exhibition offered students a valuable opportunity to display their work alongside that of outstanding young artists from Catholic schools throughout the state.
A highlight of the event was Nina receiving the Caritas Award for her exceptional pencil artwork. Her highly realistic piece depicts a vulnerable polar bear swimming beneath an industrial landscape, exploring the effects of climate change and humanity’s responsibility to care for the environment.
The artwork strongly reflects the Caritas guiding principle of Stewardship of the Earth’s Resources. It encourages viewers to consider the relationship between industrial progress, environmental responsibility and the protection of our common home.
The Angelico Catholic Art Awards provide an important platform for young artists to communicate meaningful ideas, experiences and contemporary issues through visual art. Participation also builds students’ confidence and allows them to contribute to the creativity flourishing within Catholic education.
