Bushies @ Rottnest

Donna Williams (Bush Rangers Coordinator)

Despite the less-than-perfect weather, our adventurous Bushies gathered bright and early, buzzing with excitement for our big day out to Rottnest Island. With snorkels in hand and spirits high, we made our way to Fremantle to catch the ferry — a slightly bumpy journey across the waves that only added to the sense of adventure.

Upon arrival, we wasted no time immersing ourselves in the unique community and stunning natural beauty of Rotto. Our bus was perfectly timed, ready to take us on a guided tour of the island’s highlights. Along the way, we were lucky enough to spot seals, dolphins, breathtaking coastal landscapes, and of course, the island’s most famous residents — the ever-smiling quokkas.

One of the day’s most memorable moments came when we reached the northern point of the island. There, we had the incredible opportunity to snorkel and experience the vibrant underwater world of the reef. “Being able to snorkel on the reef with everyone was the highlight of the day for me,” shared Lauren (Year 8) — a sentiment echoed by many who took part. Special thanks go to Matt Evans and Clare Williams, who bravely stayed in the chilly waters to guide our exploration around the rocks and coral shelf, ensuring both safety and discovery.

After the snorkelling adventure, there was time to explore the local shops and engage with the friendly island community. For many, it was a chance to reflect on the day and soak up the relaxed island vibe. “It was an amazing day out,” said Kylie (Year 9) — simple words that captured the spirit of the experience perfectly.

As we boarded the ferry back to Fremantle, the sea had other plans for us. The return trip was rougher than the morning ride. But, as always, our Bushies pulled together, supporting one another through the waves and making it back to the mainland in high spirits.

A huge thank you goes to Mr and Mrs Stynes, Ms Holberton, and Mrs Williams for their dedication and planning — ensuring the day ran smoothly from start to finish.

35 out, 35 home — and many memories made.
