Our End-of-Year Aboriginal Family Night was a heartfelt celebration, bringing together our community to reflect on the year’s journey and honour our rich cultural heritage. It was a night of connection, pride, and gratitude, shared with families, staff, and students alike.
The evening began with a moving Acknowledgement of Country led by Year 9 student Mitchell, followed by a prayer shared by Year 10 student Mia alongside Mrs Dann and Mr Alweyn. Their words set the tone for a night of unity and reflection.
With 20 families attending, the turnout was incredible. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to share a meal and relive the highlights of the year through a beautifully curated slideshow. The night also marked significant milestones, as we bid farewell to three of our Year 12 students. These graduating students passed the baton to our newest members: the Year 7 scholarship winners. Together, our Year 7s and Year 12s shared a special moment during the final farewell blessing, a symbol of the strength and continuity of our mob.
Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome Bailey Williams as our Aboriginal Liaison Trainee for the coming year. Bailey’s leadership will be instrumental in continuing to support our students and uphold our cultural values.
Celebrating our heritage is more than just an event—it reinforces our identity, belonging, and the strength of our connections. None of this would be possible without the dedication of our amazing moorditj staff, who go above and beyond to make this event happen every year. A heartfelt thank you to each of them for their unwavering support.
Reflecting on the night, Year 8 students Savi and Morgan summed it up perfectly:
“It was a really fun and great experience meeting the new Year 7s, and the food was amazing. Overall, it was just a very good night and brought all our mobs together.”
As we look to the future, we do so with gratitude for the good spirit that watches over us all. Here’s to more shared memories, cultural pride, and community connection in the years to come.
