Celebrating Excellence

Jenefer Wiltschut – Deputy Principal

At a recent staff meeting, our Principal Mr Jones asked us to reflect on how we build community within our college – a word he had heard repeated over and over again during conversations with our graduating class of 2026. As our Year 12s spoke of their journey at Kolbe and what they valued most, this was a word that carried a shared meaning across the cohort – a place where they felt connected, valued and part of something greater than themselves.

As our community came together last week for our Year 11’s final assembly of the year, it gave us time to pause and reflect on how a seemingly routine tradition, the ‘assembling’ of staff, students and parents in the gymnasium contributed to the sense of community so many of our graduates spoke about. From sitting with our PC friends within our pastoral Houses, to celebrating the achievements and contributions of their peers, each of these moments adds to a shared story of belonging, reminding us that community is built through the experiences, connections and celebrations we share.

Throughout the assembly, we celebrated the many ways our students contribute to the life of the College. From the creativity showcased at Forge, our annual Visual Arts, Media and Design & Technology exhibition, to the curiosity and achievements of our talented GATE students, there was much to be proud of. We reflected on wellbeing initiatives that brought students together in connection and support and acknowledged the generosity of those who contributed to KolbeCare throughout the year. We also recognised students from each of our Houses through the presentation of House Awards, celebrating those who exemplify the values of their House patron. Among these moments of recognition was a particularly special achievement, with Year 11 student Daragh receiving the VETiS WorldSkills Regional Bronze Medal for Bricklaying.

The assembly also provided an opportunity to announce our new student executive team for 2027, College Captains Pavinya and Ryan, and College Vice Captains Lauren and Sienna. As we congratulated these students on their appointments, we were reminded that leadership is, at its heart, about service to others. We look forward to seeing the contributions they will make in strengthening the connections, sense of belonging and community spirit that make Kolbe such a special place.
