The assembly opened with an address from our Student Executive team — Zayde, Sophie, Mckenna and Holly, who reflected on the meaning of excellence. They shared that excellence is not just measured by results or awards, but by perseverance, courage and the choices students make when facing challenges.
A moving example shared was the story of Austin Appelbee, a 13-year-old from Western Australia who showed extraordinary courage. After his family was pushed into danger while on the water, Austin swam four kilometres to shore and ran a further two kilometres to get help, leading to their safe rescue. Having failed part of his swimming lessons only weeks earlier, his story reminded us that excellence is about resilience and stepping up when it matters most.
We then formally acknowledged the achievements of our 2025 graduates, welcoming several alumni back to the College. Students who achieved an ATAR above 90 were recognised as members of the College’s 90+ ATAR Club, placing them among the top 10% of students in the state, with 28% of Kolbe ATAR students achieving this result. Certificates of Distinction and Merit were also awarded to students for their consistent high achievement across Years 11 and 12 in ATAR, General and VET pathways.
Mrs Stephanie Griffiths, Deputy Principal of Teaching and Learning, congratulated the graduates and spoke about the importance of consistency, strong learning habits and engagement, highlighting that classroom expectations support positive learning environments and student success.
The assembly concluded with our 2026 Sports Captains sharing details about the upcoming Swimming Carnival and encouraging students to support their House.
Overall, the assembly was a proud moment for the Kolbe community, celebrating academic success alongside the values of resilience, effort and excellence. We congratulate our 2025 High Achievers and thank them for the example they continue to set.
