In the final week of Term One, the Kolbe Catholic College community gathered on the Avenue for our Easter Liturgy. As we journey through the season of Lent and prepare for Holy Week, this liturgy offered a powerful reflection on the events of Holy Thursday: The Last Supper, the Washing of the Feet, and the Agony in the Garden.
Students led us in scripture, prayer, and a washing of the feet ritual as we stepped into the footsteps of Christ during his final hours. Year 9 student Maria reflected, “As we gathered as a community, we reflected on the footsteps of Jesus. We were reminded that even in moments of struggle, we can always turn to God, in trust.”
A highlight of the liturgy was the re-enactment of the Washing of the Feet. Koda, Year 8, who took part as one of the disciples, shared, “The washing of the feet is when Jesus washed the disciples’ feet to show them an example of what we need to do for God and each other.”
Year 12 Ministry Captain Pietro offered a reminder of the significance of Holy Week: “These are the days when Jesus accepts His and God’s will, where Jesus died for us and resurrected from the dead to prove and to show that he is the real Son of God.”
As Harry, one of our readers, beautifully summed up, “It unites everybody who has different beliefs and backgrounds, into one area to reflect on the Easter season.” Our life is full of noise and distraction, so it was fitting that at the end of the liturgy, the community left in silence, just as Jesus’ followers would have spent that night. It was a moving call to reflection, conversion and commitment.
