“It has been such a great experience getting to use my media skills in English to explore a passion of mine. I thoroughly enjoyed this assessment and getting to watch all the submissions at K-Fest!” Year 11 General English student.
In week 6, Kolbe’s Year 11 General English students, their teachers and a select group of judges met on the WLC tiered seating to view the top documentary submissions from this year’s K-Fest competition. Students showed their creativity, media skills and passions in a variety of areas such as stress and its impact on the body, the different eras of music, football and more.
K-Fest has been an anticipated event in the Kolbe calendar for five years running and every year, the calibre of student submissions shines. Judges Steven Gardner, Vice Principal Peter Jones and Head of English, Robert Armitage were especially impressed with the maturity shown by students and their level of commitment to excellence
Congratulations should be given to the following students:
- Overall Winner: Jacob and Pietro for their depiction of The History of Aggressive Inline Skating.
- Second Place: Cody, Harrison, Jerry and Oscar for their mockumentary titled ‘Fast Food Hell’
- Third Place: Clay’s portrayal of the majestic Rhodesian Ridgeback
- People’s Choice Award: Callen, Noah and Nathan for ‘Water Sports in Safety Bay’
A special thank you to our Year 11 General English teachers Mrs Ridge, Miss Grassie, Mrs Geling, Miss Cartwright and Miss Eastwood for the setting up and running of this event. We look forward to seeing what our Year 11’s get up to the rest of the Year in English and whether there are any budding documentary directors on the horizon.
