KCC Cross Country

David Walker (Head of Health and Physical Education)

Following on from our awesome swimming efforts this term, the annual Kolbe Cross Country Carnival was another raging success. A true celebration of effort, persistence, fitness and friendly competition between peers and Houses. It was great to see the whole school involved in year level races across the school day, to kick off the last week of term, enjoying the beautiful sunny weather.

In each age group and gender, the top finisher earns 40 points, second place earns 39 points, and so forth, all the way down to 1 point for everyone else who finishes thereafter. Points add up to determine Champion House on the day.

In addition, the House that gets as many competitors to finish the 3km course in under the 30min cut-off time, combined with overall attendance, wins the coveted Spirit Shield.

All Yr 7-9 Movement and Physical Activity classes had an orientation of the course in recent lessons and their teachers passed on valuable race tips, preparations and laid down the challenge to aspire for their personal best, to show what they are made of. Courage is in our motto here at Kolbe and there were certainly some gutsy performances and sprint finishes that were just inspiring – Well done!

Congratulations to Teresa House, Spirit Shield winners for the second year in a row.

Full credit to Xavier House, also repeating their win from last year, taking out the brand new Champion House Trophy this year, by quite some margin.

Thanks to the staff performing important duties and those who ran, walked or cycled every race of the day keeping a check on the course. The involvement of our Yr 11 and 12 Certificate II Sport & Recreation students, acting as officials, was a big success. Great experience for them to be given the responsibility and to step up and be leaders in our sporting endeavours.

All participants should be proud of their efforts and for competing with integrity. Hopefully you ran a Personal Best or were happy with your personal challenge. Or maybe you supported a team mate or even just enjoyed the fresh air and atmosphere – Good on you! Thanks for all the encouragement and good will along the way.

There were a couple of records broken to top off an impressive field of results on the track. Congratulations to our age group/gender Champions and Runners Up. We are keen for a strong team effort again at interschool trainings and then the big ACC Carnival next term.

Congratulations to our year group champions and runners up:
