On August 15th, the College community gathered in high spirits to celebrate Kolbe Day; a tribute to the life, love, and legacy of St Maximilian Kolbe. Fittingly, this celebration coincided with the Feast of the Assumption, reflecting young Raymund Kolbe’s deep devotion to Our Lady, who appeared to him in a life-changing childhood vision. Born on January 8, 1894, and martyred on August 14, 1941, at Auschwitz, St Maximilian offered his life for fellow prisoner Franciszek Gajowniczek — a timeless example of selfless love and compassion.
Kolbe Day began with Mass led by the much-loved Fr Geoff, whose return brought joy to staff and students alike. His homily reflected on Kolbe’s humility and unwavering faith, virtues that Fr Geoff challenged us all to aspire to. Then came Max’s Games. A lively burst of multi-sport competition brimming with House spirit.
At 12:30pm, the much awaited sale kicked off. Queues quickly formed for the legendary Hagiwara Noodles, made even more iconic by the original Noodle Master himself manning the BBQ. Music students, led by the ever-energetic Mr Gryl, kept the tunes flowing, lifting the festive atmosphere. Laughter and friendly banter rang from the Dunk Tank, where Mr Jones plunged in fully suited, while Mr Pickford endured a soaking at the Splat the Staff stall.
The afternoon peaked with the inaugural Kolbe Masked Singer, followed by the announcement of the Athletics Carnival champions. Congratulations to Xavier House for breaking Chisholm’s eight-year winning streak!
Sincere thanks must go to our PC teachers, House Coordinators, Ms Mitchell, Mr Feldman and our admin staff. Without their hard work Kolbe Day would not have been possible. Finally to our amazing students — your energy and effort made the day unforgettable.
