Kolbe Catholic College went around the world and back again as we celebrated the CBCA’s Book Week 2025! This year’s theme, “Book an Adventure”, transformed our Walsh Learning Centre into a magical walk-through experience of Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days. Students delighted in discovering fun facts about France, India, China, and Japan—journeys that sparked both curiosity and wonder.
The excitement didn’t stop there. We were lucky enough to host Norman Jorgenson, who shared tales of sailing on the Leeuwin and firing muskets in England—adventures that inspired his award-winning novel The Smuggler’s Curse. Students also had the chance to meet Gavin Aung, New York Times bestselling author and illustrator, who inspired us all with his story of how a passion for drawing turned into a career in storytelling and cartooning.

Throughout the week, students and staff immersed themselves in activities that celebrated reading and creativity. From paper umbrella decorating and a second-hand book sale, to creative writing challenges, book nooks, and story walks, there was something for every budding adventurer. We even had Circus W.A visit on Friday Fun Day, proving that storytelling isn’t just read—it can be moved, juggled, and balanced too!

The week culminated in our much-loved Book Week Dress-Up Day, where favourite literary characters leapt from the page into the classroom. Congratulations to our Best Dressed winners, Judd and Will – Year 12 – who came dressed as Tweedledee and Tweedledum, and our Most Creative winner, Maddie – Year 11 – who came dressed as Count Orlock, a.k.a the original Dracula, from Nosferatu. The costumes, laughter, and energy were truly a sight to behold!
A huge thank you to our incredible Walsh Learning Centre Team, whose imagination and dedication made the week an unforgettable adventure. Book Week reminds us that the joy of reading lasts a lifetime—so here’s to many more stories, adventures, and journeys to come!
