On Remembrance Day we commemorate those who died in the First World War, as well as all Australian Defence Force personnel who have fought and died in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
The year 2025 marks the 107th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice between Allied forces and Germany, which ended the First World War (1914–18). On November 11, 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. More Australians were killed and wounded in the First World War than in all subsequent conflicts combined. This year also marked the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
On the 11th of November, as a mark of respect, our students and staff gathered on the Avenue to listen to a student-led reflection, to pause for one minute’s silence and to hear the moving sound of “The Last Post” and “The Rouse” played beautifully on the trumpet to remember all those who died or suffered for Australia in all wars and armed conflicts.
Year 7 student Paige commented “I love how our big school community all unites on Remembrance Day to pause, reflect and show respect for those who served and helped shape the peaceful life we have today.”
Year 10 students, Ella and Ruby, attended the Rockingham Remembrance Day Service at the Cenotaph and laid a wreath from our grateful school community affording them the opportunity to acknowledge, honour and remember the courage and sacrifice of those who have served our country and those who gave their lives in service to our nation.
Year 9 student, Brielle commented that “Remembrance Day reminds us how important it is to honour those who sacrificed their lives so we can live in peace.”
We will remember them. Lest we forget.
