Kolbe Catholic College gathered recently for its annual Opening Mass, a significant moment of renewal in the life of the College.
Celebrated in our new gymnasium for the first time, the Mass marked not only the beginning of the school year, but also the official opening of Stages 15 and 16. While the blessing of the new buildings was an important milestone, the celebration remained grounded in faith, reminding us that strong foundations are built first in the heart.
During the Mass, celebrated by all three parish priests — Fr Vijay, Fr Giovanni, and Fr Thi — the Kolbe community gathered in prayer to bless this new space and set the tone for a year of learning, growth, and togetherness. New staff were commissioned and received medallions bearing the image of St Maximilian Kolbe and Our Lady, symbols of courage, humility and trust. Crucifixes for the new classrooms were blessed, placing Christ visibly at the centre of teaching and learning.
Ministry Captain Reese reflected, “Opening Mass has always been such a unique and deeply connecting moment in the school year, with the College and with God. Being immersed in Mass in the new gym was especially significant to symbolise new beginnings, topped off perfectly with the homily that reminded me of the amazing community I’m lucky to be a part of, Kolbe.”
In this season of Lent and in our Franciscan Jubilee year, the Opening Mass reminded us that renewal is not simply about new spaces, but about shared mission.. walking together in faith, purpose and hope.
