Kolbe Catholic College began the season of Lent with energy, reflection and purpose, as students led both our Project Compassion launch on Shrove Tuesday and our whole-school Ash Wednesday Liturgy.
On Shrove Tuesday, our Year 9 Student Leaders gathered for an online liturgy with schools across Western Australia before planning how Kolbe will support Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion campaign this Lent. As Isabella (Year 9) shared, “We started by praying together with other schools and talking about our ideas for Project Compassion… It was honestly a very lovely and amazing experience.”
In the spirit of Shrove Tuesday, students also enjoyed pancakes together, a joyful tradition before entering the Lenten season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Delilah (Year 9) reflected that it was “a really nice way to begin the day,” with time spent sharing ideas and preparing resources to raise awareness and funds throughout the term.
The following day, our College gathered in the new gym for a reverent and powerful Ash Wednesday Liturgy. Year 12 leaders distributed ashes, marking the beginning of Lent with the words, “Turn away from sin and follow the Gospel.”
Alexander (Year 9), who helped lead the liturgy, shared, “I feel blessed to have led the College… and to reflect on what Lent is truly about.”
As we journey through these 40 days, Kolbe commits to uniting against poverty and ensuring that faith is lived not only in words, but in action.
