Trade-Path Program Progress
The Year 10 Trade-Path Program is progressing well. Students have been attending South Metro TAFE every Tuesday, learning skills in plastering, tiling, and bricklaying. Feedback from TAFE has been very positive, with our students showing strong engagement and skill development. Additionally, the Trade Path students attended the Lendlease Career Taster on Garden Island last month, gaining hands-on experience in the Defence Industry. The final step in the Trade Path Program is applying for the Kolbe Certificate II Electrotechnology (Pre-Apprenticeship) course, which will commence in Term 3. SMTAFE have already confirmed that this opportunity will be available for our current Year 9 students when they are Year 10 in 2025.
Career Taster Program for Year 9
The Year 9 Career Tasters continue to be a major success and a highlight for our students. Several students have already visited SMTAFE to explore the nursing industry, where they had hands-on experiences in a simulated hospital ward at the Murdoch Campus.
Notre Dame UniPath Program
Our Notre Dame UniPath students are nearing the end of their course. Eight Year 12 Kolbe students have been attending Notre Dame Fremantle Campus every Thursday throughout Semester 1 to acquire essential university skills. Good luck to these students in their final assessments!
University Early Offers 2024
There has been considerable excitement around University Early Offers in recent years. Since May 1st, current Year 12 students have been able to apply, through TISC, to universities based on their Year 11 Semester 2 report. The Pathways Team has been hosting after-school application sessions for students, with early offers expected to start coming in from September.
Year 11 Subject Selections for 2025
Current Year 10 students, who will be in Year 11 in 2025, are beginning the subject selection process, which can be overwhelming. The College offers numerous opportunities for parents and students to ask questions and learn about the various pathways available at Kolbe. Key points to remember include:
● Striving for the best possible Semester 1 report to gain more subject recommendations, which allows for a wider range of subject choices in Year 11. A strong report is also advantageous for students applying to TAFE for VETDSS (TAFE while still in school).
● Participating in Future Pathways Day on Friday, June 14th. This interactive day is designed to inform students about various career pathways.
● Visiting Kolbe Course Central to familiarise yourself with the Kolbe Pathways.
● Conducting thorough research to steer your career path.
