Pilgrims of Hope – Continuing the Journey in the Spirit of Pope Francis
As we begin Term 2 at Kolbe Catholic College, we do so with a deep sense of loss and gratitude. The passing of Pope Francis has touched the hearts of Catholics around the world—especially in this Jubilee Year he named Pilgrims of Hope. His vision was one of renewal, inviting us to walk forward with courage, mercy, and trust in God’s goodness.
In one of his General Audiences, Pope Francis said: “Hope is the virtue of a heart that doesn’t close itself in darkness… but looks to the future with trust.” We saw that hope alive in our Easter liturgy, our retreat reflections, and our Lenten crossroads Masses. These moments helped shape us as a community ready to continue living out the Jubilee.
Now, with the election of Pope Leo XIV, the Church enters a new chapter. In his first address in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Leo XIV greeted the world with the simple words, “Peace be with all of you,” and paid heartfelt tribute to his predecessor: “Thank you, Pope Francis!” His warm and humble message echoes the very spirit of the Jubilee and reaffirms our shared mission of faith and hope.
This term, our Ministry Captains will explore the four Jubilee themes—Pilgrimage, Prayer, Reconciliation, and Hope—at assemblies, offering practical ways for our community to respond. The Jubilee message will continue to be woven into our liturgies, Masses, and retreats, calling all members of our College to be renewed in faith and hope.
Staff are also invited to journey deeply, with faith-focused professional development experiences that echo Pope Francis’ call to encounter the love and mercy of God. Our commitment to the Season of Creation and the upcoming Laudato Si’ Youth Summit will anchor our Jubilee journey in care for our common home.
Even in his passing, Pope Francis’ dream lives on—and with Pope Leo XIV, we continue forward. We are Pilgrims of Hope.
