Principal’s Message

Neil Alweyn (Principal)

A big welcome back to our Kolbe Catholic College Community for 2025. It is fantastic to be able to address you all with our first eNews for the year. We have had a wonderful start to the academic year, and seeing our grounds filled with the enthusiasm and excitement of our students after a long break has made our campus feel like home again. A very special welcome to all our new Year 7 families, and also to families who have students joining us in other year groups for the first time. We hope you have also had a smooth and enjoyable start to your journey at Kolbe.  It has been wonderful getting to chat to parents at our Parent Information Evenings which were held in a new format this year. We hope that those who attended enjoyed the opportunity to attend specific ‘pop-up’ sessions for areas of interest. We welcome any feedback about these newly designed Parent Information Evenings, and we hope to have even more offerings available next year.

I like to start every academic year by thanking our parents and caregivers for trusting us with your children. Our staff know how important that trust is, and we don’t take for granted that you hand over your most prized assets to us every morning. The special partnership between our parents and our staff is the foundation of what makes Kolbe such an incredible community. By supporting one another, our students are provided a platform to develop into lifelong learners, inspired by Jesus ready to transform the world.

Heading into my fifth year at Kolbe, I can speak on behalf of all our staff when I say that working within this community is a privilege. Every day we are inspired by the courage, faith and excellence on display by our students. There are not many professions which inspire you to make a difference on a daily basis, and it is our students who motivate us to help them become the best version of themselves . Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Kolbe does not just focus on acquiring knowledge – it is about inspiring students to make a difference in society.

As educators, we sometimes forget the impact we can have on the lives of our students and their families. A teacher’s influence extends far beyond the classroom, shaping a student’s confidence, passion, and future, no matter where life takes them. As seen in this emotional reunion between Adele and her former teacher, the belief of an educator can leave a lifelong impact, even on those who go on to achieve global success.

Finally, on behalf of everyone at Kolbe Catholic College, we wish you and your family the best for the year ahead. Thank you again for your trust and partnership, and we look forward to walking this journey with you, as we work together to support our amazing students.
