This year, Kolbe is trialling a new initiative to keep the wellbeing conversations happening all year long! As part of the Wellbeing Team’s commitment to prioritise and promote positive wellbeing, Wellbeing Wednesday’s will now be marked on the school calendar once a term. By spreading these dedicated days across the school year instead of only one week, we hope to encourage regular discussions about wellbeing whilst providing fun and engaging opportunities for students and staff to explore a proactive approach to self-care.
The evidence backed “Five Ways to Wellbeing” are at the heart of our approach here at Kolbe as they offer easy, accessible and practical strategies for improving mental health and fostering a supportive community. Throughout the day students were encouraged to “GIVE”, TAKE NOTICE”, BE ACTIVE”, KEEP LEARNING, and “CONNECT” in a number of activities happening around the College.
Loyola House had a whole hour dedicated to Wellbeing during the Extended PC period and were able to spend time with their fellow House members either playing multi-sport, versing each other in board games, or practising mindfulness and gratitude. Our Year 10 Peer Support Leaders took time to hang out with their Year 7 counterparts at recess and lunch, fostering friendships ready for their upcoming camp, while our Year 12 Captains spent time in our Learning Support playing games and making new friends. The Bushranger crew set up an amazing activity at lunch planting seeds and succulents, and our Learning and Technologies Captain created a fantastic craft activity with the help of our WLC superstars. For those keen to move, it was all systems go on the avenue thanks to our Year 12 Sports and Music Captains creating an energetic vibe, and we couldn’t forget our staff who had an opportunity to Be Active after a hard day of work with a visit from Lucy at Boogie Bounce!
Our first Wellbeing Wednesday was a huge success, and we hope all students had an opportunity to think about the small things they can do to promote positive wellbeing.
