Specialist Success

Verena Smallman (Head of Visual Arts)

Tayla, a student in our Art Specialist program at Kolbe, has had an incredible year exploring her creativity, building a portfolio of artworks, visiting tertiary institutions, and participating in external art exhibitions within our wider community.

We’re thrilled to announce that Tayla recently achieved excellence in the Catholic Arts Angelico Awards, receiving a Highly Commended for her artwork, “Tears of Grace”, in the prestigious Fra Angelico Award. Competing among hundreds of entrants from Catholic schools across the state, Tayla has made us incredibly proud.

Our Specialist courses empower students to independently pursue their talents with guidance from our dedicated staff. Tayla has taken the initiative to interview and secure a spot to study Cert IV in Graphic Design in 2025, taking along her art portfolio collated over the year, ensuring that her passion for the Visual Arts will remain a central part of her life.

The Specialist program is a key component of our Future Pathways initiative, helping Kolbe students achieve success in their chosen fields.

Congratulations also to our other exceptional entrants in the Angelico Art Awards—Mia, Sophia, Olivia, Abbey, and our Year 8 Sculpture class and their Clay Rabbits. Your work is creative and displays your immense talent, and we are equally proud of your participation in this year’s exhibition. We hope Tayla’s story inspires you to continue pursuing your artistic dreams.
