Last Tuesday, Kolbe Catholic College proudly welcomed the newest members of our Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program at the annual GATE Welcome Breakfast, a morning filled with inspiration, connection, and a delicious bite to eat.
Our newest Year 7 and 8 GATE students, along with their families, gathered to explore the exciting journey that lies ahead. The event introduced them to the enriching academic and co-curricular opportunities available through GATE, and set the stage for a collaborative and supportive partnership between students, parents, and staff.
For me, it was a chance to meet all the wonderful new junior members and begin a rich partnership with them and their parents that their future success in GATE will hinge upon.
One of our new Year 8 students, Morgan, shared her enthusiasm about the year ahead:
“I’m excited to be part of the competitions and activities, especially the Mock UN Summit!”
After enjoying a tasty breakfast, families gathered for a short presentation highlighting the newest initiatives within the program, including the Rising Scholar Program (RSP). It was also a moment for reflection and mentorship, as some of our senior GATE students stepped up to share their personal experiences.
Pavinya, a Year 10 student currently in the RSP, reflected on her journey:
“I loved the way different competitions pushed me to excel… and the free food.”
These senior students were incredible ambassadors. Offering insight, encouragement, and a glimpse into the opportunities that lie ahead. Their passion and confidence were inspiring, and they truly embodied the spirit of GATE and the College itself.
If our new students are anything to go by, the future is looking incredibly bright. We can’t wait to see what they achieve as they grow, lead, and thrive within the GATE program.
