Our Year 9 Career Taster Day was a fantastic opportunity for students to explore different career pathways, try new experiences and start thinking about what their future might look like.
Students had the chance to get involved in a range of hands-on activities at Kolbe, including VR goggles, sports medicine, hospitality and childcare. These experiences gave students a taste of what different jobs involve and helped them discover new interests and skills they might like to develop further. For students interested in university, there were visits to Notre Dame, Murdoch and Curtin University. These visits gave students the opportunity to explore university campuses, learn about different courses and get a feel for what life as a university student might be like. Students interested in marine studies headed to AQWA to learn more about the marine environment and the careers available in this field, while those looking towards future careers in science, technology and industry visited Scitech to explore the possibilities.
Abby Egan reflected on the day, saying, “I enjoyed seeing what I’m good at and what I would be interested in. I took away a clearer idea of jobs I’d like to try in the future.” Lauren Young particularly enjoyed visiting the universities, explaining, “I was able to venture into the university campus and experience what life is like of a university student while learning courses and career paths that I can take in the future.”
It was great to see our Year 9 students getting involved, exploring their options and starting to think about where their interests might take them. While they certainly don’t need to have their future all figured out just yet, the day gave them a valuable starting point and plenty of ideas to explore as they continue their journey through school.
