Last Friday, Kolbe Catholic College’s Dance Company achieved an outstanding 3rd Place at the YOH Fest State Grand Finals, competing against the very best school dance groups from across Western Australia.
The achievement was made even more remarkable by the unique challenges facing the team. While many of our dancers and staff were representing the College at the Junior Theatre Festival in Newcastle, the remaining members of Dance Company came together and rose to the occasion. With a significant number of performers away on tour, the piece required extensive reworking and rearranging in the weeks leading up to the event.
In a true display of resilience, teamwork and dedication, the students embraced every challenge. Due to the Sydney and Newcastle tour commitments, Mrs Shanassy was unable to attend the technical rehearsal in person and instead viewed it via video call. However, the team’s positive attitude, flexibility and commitment ensured the performance was polished and performance-ready.
A special thank you must go to Mrs Ellen Watson and Miss Geiling, who accompanied the group and supported them throughout the day. Their guidance, encouragement and care were invaluable in helping the dancers perform at their very best.
We would also like to acknowledge 2026 Dance Captain, Genevieve, whose leadership was exceptional. In Mrs Shanassy’s absence, Genevieve took responsibility for running rehearsal on the day, supporting her fellow dancers and ensuring everyone felt prepared and confident for the performance. Her maturity, dedication and commitment to the team embodied the spirit of Kolbe Performing Arts.
Most importantly, this achievement reflects the strength of our Dance Company culture. The students supported one another, adapted to changing circumstances and worked together as an incredible team. Their determination and professionalism were rewarded with a fantastic result, bringing home 3rd Place in the State Grand Final.
